Experience Workshops: Services

Handpans are captivating instruments that many people have heard and fallen in love with, yet few have had the chance to play. We provide an opportunity to explore instruments in a range of scales and materials made by respected UK makers. Our workshops and retreats are designed to introduce participants to various playing techniques while emphasising intuitive and expressive playing.

In 2024, we launched a series of Introduction to Handpan workshops and retreats, creating welcoming spaces for people to discover the joy of this instrument. We are based in South Devon, but operate across the South of England. If you aree interested in joining us, feel free to reach out at info@pankind.org for more details.

Handpans vary greatly in sound quality and aesthetic between makers. The type of steel used to create them also significantly affects their character. Unfortunately, the growing popularity of handpans has led to an increase in low-quality instruments being sold at high prices by less scrupulous sellers. We are passionate about helping people avoid these pitfalls.

Whilst we don’t sell handpans ourselves, we have strong connections with many of the UK’s most skilled handpan makers. If you’re looking to purchase an instrument, we’re happy to recommend reliable makers that we know and trust. Our workshops and retreats provide an opportunity to explore and compare handpans from different makers in a hands-on setting, empowering you to make an informed decision that suits your needs. We’ll never pressure anyone to buy from a specific maker, as choosing a handpan is a personal journey—and a meaningful investment that deserves careful consideration.

Team Building and Effective Communication Workshops

Drumming circles have long been a popular tool for team-building activities, and we take this concept to the next level with the unique and melodic sounds of handpans. Our sessions focus on fostering team cohesion, encouraging cooperation, and promoting effective communication. By blending active listening with opportunities for self-expression, we create an environment where individual voices harmonize within the collective dynamic. Plus, our sessions offer a quieter, more relaxing alternative to traditional drumming circles.

As part of our commitment to giving back, for every retreat or team building workshop that we run, we will donate a free community session through We Need Music CIC. This ensures that your experience also supports music-making opportunities for those who may not otherwise have access.
